Hyundai Kona 12v Battery Problems We have 2022 Kona EV we love the car but we have an issue with the 12 volt battery It died and needed jumping in September and again needed a jump on Saturday 10 22 and this morning Monday 10 24 it s dead again Couple of questions 1 After jumping can I do anything to help charge the 12v Battery driving the car around

The 12V battery is constantly in use even when the car is off though the draw is supposed to be minimal This keeps the very basic vehicle functions alive such as the timers listening for the keyfob signal and some battery monitoring functions IIRC Jun 19 2021 1 Soona Member Oregon USA After my Kona EV died I started reading threads here about problems with the aux 12v battery I jumped it and will take it to the shop tomorrow to do a load test and see if the battery needs replacing So I d like to know in advance can any standard car battery be installed

After doing some research online it looks like the EV battery can charge the 12V battery I plugged into the normal charger overnight and still nothing changed and nothing changed It looks like it defaults to this The 12V battery is normally charged by the car s systems every 4 hours for 20 minutes but only once a day after being parked for over 56 hours If the 12V battery is found to be depleted the car doesn t often extend the the 20 min charge time but can schedule another 20 min charge 2 hours later

Have read a few threads in this forum on the 12volt battery This is a real issue We had had this issue a few times with the doors open for not very long maybe 15 minutes At the 2 year service we asked for the battery to be checked and were told it was fine Now stranded again after My 12 volt battery on my 2020 Kona ev 9000 miles on the clock had gone flat 4 times first time was my fault but other 3 times went flat for no reason Called the AA all they did was charge for a few minutes and the car started

There s a lot of this problem going around You re right the traction battery will top up the 12 volt battery even when the car is turned off to an extent However There seems to be a limit to how much power it will provide while the vehicle is turned off 1 Mar 5 2021 I ve read on this forum of many people having issues with the 12v battery running down but I ve been lucky so far However just to be sure a while ago I bought a battery monitor to keep an eye on things It s been showing how the battery gets a boost every 4 hours when not in use See screenshot below
